Job Summary
SSTi is seeking a Systems Engineer with hands-on experience supporting Aegis Combat System (ACS) operations, Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD), and Anti-Air Warfare (AAW) testing. The ideal candidate will provide shipboard and land-based system engineering support during simulated and live fire events and Waterfront Integration Tests (WITs), with a strong focus on operational accuracy, data collection, and test documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as Aegis Combat System Scribe during shipboard and land-based test events for ABMD and AAW live fire and simulated missions
Record and document combat system activity, producing detailed event timelines and run logs
Identify, document, and track combat system issues with potential tactical impact (CPCRs, TORs)
Support data analysis teams by documenting expected behaviors and system excursions
Collaborate with Navy operators, system engineers, SMEs, and test personnel
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
5+ years of experience supporting Aegis Combat Systems, missile defense, or naval combat systems
Active Secret security clearance
Ability to work effectively in shipboard, lab, and operational test environments
Preferred Qualifications
Prior U.S. Navy combat systems or operations experience
Strong understanding of Aegis BMD and AAW operational concepts
Experience documenting system performance and test results
Direct experience supporting WITs, live fire events, or integrated combat system testing
Strong written communication skills for technical reporting and documentation

VOM Software Engineer
Job Title: Software Engineer

Job Summary
SSTi is seeking a Software Engineer with extensive experience in real-time, safety-critical software development for missile systems and weapon system test equipment. The ideal candidate will drive design, development, integration, and test efforts for Standard Missile (SM-2, SM-3, SM-6) and ESSM systems, supporting Aegis Weapon System and MK 41 VLS interfaces.
Key Responsibilities
Provide software development for missile system communications test sets and virtual operational missile (VOM) programs
Design, develop, and maintain real-time, object-oriented software using VxWorks SMP RTOS on multi-core VME-based systems
Provide software development for SM-2, SM-3, SM-6, and ESSM Communications Test Sets and Monitor & Control Units
Develop software to retrieve, store, parse, and stream real-time missile telemetry and Missile Test Data (MTD)
Implement and support Kill Assessment System (KAS) playback and real-time data analysis
Interface with MK 41 Vertical Launching System (VLS) and Aegis Weapon System (AWS) components
Participate in Waterfront Integration Tests (WITs), land-based tests, and flight test events
Review and contribute to missile specifications, Interface Change Requests (ICRs), and system requirements
Author and review software requirements, test plans, and system documentation
Ensure compliance with safety-critical software standards and support Software System Safety Technical Review Panels (SSSTRP)
Collaborate with Navy stakeholders and contractors during program reviews and technical exchanges
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (Master’s preferred)
10 years of experience in software engineering for defense, weapon systems, or real-time embedded systems
Active Secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting Aegis BMD, AAW, and missile flight test programs
Familiarity with Standard Missile initialization messages and telemetry formats
Experience with hardware/software integration for missile simulators and test equipment
Experience with VxWorks RTOS, including SMP and multi-core architectures
Strong background in real-time data acquisition, telemetry decoding, and missile communications
Proven experience developing safety-critical software and supporting formal safety reviews
Ability to lead complex technical programs and work directly with government customers
Experience with VMEbus and missile digital interfaces
Experience writing code in C/C++ on real-time operating systems (VxWorks, DSP/BIOS, & TI RIOS)

Shipboard Project Engineer

Job Summary
SSTi is seeking a Shipboard Project Engineer (PE) to collaborate with combat system technical Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), ship personnel, and other Government stakeholders to ensure the readiness of shipboard combat/weapon system during test planning and execution.
Key Responsibilities
Lead in assessing the combat/weapon system’s readiness for planned events, including maintenance checks, integration, operability assessments, and other workup efforts.
Ensure comprehensive documentation of all potential and confirmed issues, such as software, hardware, and logistics, using Test Observation Reports (TORs) managed via a TOR database.
Manage, coordinate, and oversee successful completion of combat system testing.
Required Qualifications
Experience as a project team leader responsible for personnel, performance, and schedules.
Minimum seven (7) years of experience with the maintenance, operations and testing, of Navy combat systems or weapon systems is required in either Aegis, Sea Based Weapon Systems (formerly Ballistic Missile Defense), Ship Self Defense System, or Littoral Combat Ship.
Direct experience developing Department of Defense standard documentation (i.e., test plans, test procedures, status reports, final reports).
Experience that demonstrates a strong understanding of naval combat system or weapon systems’ functions and operations.
Must attain Training Qualification Standard (TQS) qualification within one year of their assignment.
Active Secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Science or higher degree or from an accredited college in an applicable discipline such as Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical or Electronic Technology.
Experience leading and administering technical training. Typical experience includes serving as a Systems Test Officer, Combat Systems Officer, Combat Systems Maintenance Manager, Lead Chief Petty Officer of Combat Systems divisions.
