Operation Burnt Frost

Operation Burnt Frost was the code name given to the military operation to intercept and destroy a non-functioning U.S. National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) satellite named USA-193. The launch occurred on 20 February, 2008 at approximately 10:26 p.m. EST from the USS Lake Erie, which used a Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) to shoot down the satellite.

The U.S. Navy called on two senior SSTii engineers to support the mission as part of the core design, analysis, and at-sea mission team.

SSTi is proud to have aided in the success of this historic and unprecedented mission.
